The world's need for energy is increasing rapidly. And solar energy's share of the total energy consumption is expected to grow significantly over the next century.

In order to meet this challenge, the need for cost-effective solar modules is crucial. High quality glass is a key factor in a solar module as this improves the light transmission capacity and thereby increases the efficiency of the solar cells.

Ceremony for laying the foundation stone

Together with the town Sandersdorf-Brehna, represented by its Mayor Mr. Andy Grabner, we enjoyed to jointly celebrate the ceremony for laying the foundation stone of our future factory building with our customers, suppliers and guests on May 6, 2010.

Among the guests we especially welcomed the Minister of Economic and Labor affairs of Saxony-Anhalt Dr. Reiner Haseloff and the Deputy District Administrator Mr. Bernhard Böddecker as well as the Managing Director of Teknova, Kristiansand, Norway, Mr. Kjetil M. Stuland.

We were very pleased that the representative of the Norwegian Honorary General Consulate Leipzig, Mrs. Ina Adler, also joined the ceremony.

In his welcoming speech Major Andy Grabner underlined the major importance of the investment for the city of Sandersdorf-Brehna. Not only will 70 jobs be created, the expansion of the industrial estate Solar Valley is also a good signal for Sandersdorf-Brehna.

The city supports the project in a unique way by financing and building the VEGA hall with a solar roof. Vetro Solar GmbH takes over the building according to a hire purchase agreement.

In his speech Minister Dr. Haseloff underlined the innovative way to settle industry and commended the city for its effort. Courage and determination is necessary to pursue such a project in times of an ongoing financial and economical crises.

Vetro Solar’s representatives CEO Morten Hansen and Dr. Christian Püttmann thanked the state of Saxony-Anhalt and its Investment and Marketing Corporation IMG, the District Administration, the city of Sandersdorf-Brehna and the Zweckverband Technologie Park Mitteldeutschland for their ongoing support and excellent cooperation throughout this project.

With the blessing of Father Weise the foundation stone was laid. Together with the stone documents from the city, the general contractor, Vetro Solar and the actual newspaper were cast in concrete.

This is the next important milestone on our way to set up our first production line for solar glass in Germany.

In the next days the steel building of this modern construction will start, completing with a solar roof at the end of June.

The progress of the construction work provides a convenient base for the next steps:

In summer the erection of the machinery will start with target to ramp up the first line in Q3 of this year.
